Pricing
What’s included in “from $5,000 installed”?
The VK Water Whole House System price covers the system, installation and materials. That means the water softener, whole-house carbon filtration, sediment pre-filter and reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water system, plus the parts and labor to connect them in your home. Your written quote lists every item. See the Whole House System.
What’s included in “from $8,500 installed”?
The VK Water Reserve System price covers the system and its installation. Because each Reserve System is built to order, your quote lists the exact configuration and everything included for your home. See the Reserve System.
What can raise the price above the starting price?
The “from” price covers a typical install. Every home is plumbed differently, and some need more work to connect the system properly. If yours does, you’ll see it in your quote before any work starts.
Are there ongoing costs?
Yes, and we’d rather you know up front. Softeners use salt, and the sediment pre-filter and RO filters are replaced on a schedule. Your costs depend on your water and how much your household uses. See Maintenance below.
Installation
How long does installation take?
We confirm your install date and how long we’ll be at your home when we schedule. Reserve Systems are built to order, so allow time for the build before install day. See what install day looks like.
What do I need to have in place?
Usually three things: a drain close by, a standard electrical outlet for the control valve, and floor space near where water enters your home. Garages and utility areas often work well. We check all of this before your install.
Can you remove my old system?
Let us know about your current system when you request a quote, and we’ll include the plan for it.
Maintenance
How often do filters need changing?
The sediment pre-filter and the RO filters are replaced on a schedule that depends on your water and how much you use. The whole-house carbon filtration in the Whole House System is rated to 1,500,000 gallons. We leave you with a simple schedule after install.
How much salt does a softener use?
It depends on how hard your water is and how much water your household uses. You’ll top up the brine tank from time to time with softener salt. A metered control valve recharges only when it’s needed, rather than on a fixed timer.
Systems
Which system do I need?
The VK Water Whole House System suits most homes: softening, carbon filtration, a sediment pre-filter and RO drinking water, sized for homes with 4–6 bathrooms and up to 8 people. The Reserve System is built to order around a commercial-grade control valve, for larger homes or owners who want a custom build. Compare them side by side.
What’s the difference between a softener and a filter?
A softener deals with hardness minerals, the cause of scale on fixtures and spots on dishes. A filter catches or reduces other things: a sediment filter catches grit and particles, and a carbon filter reduces chlorine taste and smell. Many homes benefit from both, which is why the Whole House System combines them. Read more on our water problems page.
Does it work on well water?
Tell us if you’re on a well when you request a quote, and we’ll advise you.
Will it lower my water pressure?
Any filter or softener adds a little resistance to flow. That’s why we size each system to the home and look at your plumbing before we install. The Reserve System’s control valve allows up to 27 gpm service flow. See the Reserve System.
Service area
Can landlords, property managers or Real Estate Agents request a quote?
Yes. Use the same quote form and tell us your role and the property address in the message box. We’ll need to arrange access to the home with you, and the owner’s go-ahead before any work starts. Get a Quote.
Do you serve my area?
Send us a quote request with your ZIP code and we’ll let you know. Get a Quote.
